Embodied Prayer for Lent

A series of six sessions on Thursdays 8.30 – 9.00am (on zoom)

From 19 February to 26 March

Lent is the season in which Christians remember that, shortly after his baptism in the River Jordan, Jesus was led into the desert by the Spirit. Traditionally it is a time to focus on deepening our relationship with God, seeking to strip away obstacles that get in the way. Traditionally, the body has sometimes been viewed as an obstacle to the spiritual life, but we know that we are called to love God with all our heart, and mind and soul and strength.

What if, instead of being an obstacle, our bodies can become doorways into God’s presence and help us to pray with our whole being? This series of embodied prayer sessions will be an opportunity to explore this amazing possibility through prayerful body awareness, and awareness of our breathing, through movement and in stillness.

The sessions are fully guided and will begin seated with the opportunity to stand and move more freely for those who wish. Participation requires only enough space to stretch out your arms around you and move on the spot, but if you have more space that’s fine also. Guidance may be interpreted according to individual preferences and needs.

All welcome!
